    To begin flight training, you generally need to:

    • Be at least 16 years old for a student pilot certificate.
    • Be at least 17 years old to obtain a private pilot certificate.
    • Have a valid government-issued photo ID.

     You need to pass an FAA medical examination:

     No previous flight experience is required to start flight training for a Private Pilot License (PPL). Basic knowledge of aviation can be helpful but is not necessary.
